KEN MITCHELL READY TO WIN IN 6TH DISTRICT RACE
HARRISONBURG, VA – This afternoon, surrounded by family and supporters, Rockingham County resident Ken Mitchell formally announced his campaign for Congress to represent the 6th District of Virginia. The first college graduate in his family and a 24-year veteran of the Army and Air Force, Ken’s career includes six years of service in the White House under President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton. His service to Virginians includes building out our nation’s broadband, historic renovation in rural Virginia, and working to upgrade water management systems in the 6th District.
“I am the only candidate with a proven ability to compete across the entire district and build a broad, values-based coalition,” said Ken. “The inroads I have made in rural communities and across the district in 2024 and 2025 make it clear that I am the best candidate to take on Ben Cline and deliver change in 2026.”
As the Democratic nominee in 2024, Ken bucked the trend of lower Democratic turnout in Virginia, winning more votes in the district than any Democrat since before 2000.
“Following my consequential run last year and the results we saw in the state elections this month, I am excited to formally announce my candidacy for the US House of Representatives in Virginia’s 6th Congressional Distric– a proud district that deserves better than the leadership it has currently. I’ve worked tirelessly to support Democratic candidates this year and, following their successes, I intend to continue that momentum through 2026 and become the next Congressman for Virginia’s 6th District.”
Emboldened by his career of military service, Ken’s campaign encapsulates his desire to end the divisiveness in the 6th District and in Washington, D.C. with the campaign motto, “Leave No One Behind.” Ken plans to highlight his policy priorities, including the need to support 6th District farmers through a seat on the House Agriculture Committee, improving safety along the I-81 corridor, supporting teachers and students for better quality education, and delivering resources for every resident, regardless of zip code. Ken’s priorities also include addressing the high cost of living, affordable healthcare, and housing.
