I’m Ken Mitchell. Let’s give the 6th District the fighter it deserves.

IN MY SERVICE IN THE ARMY, THE WHITE HOUSE, AND BEYOND, I’VE LIVED BY THE PHRASE “LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND”
Leave no one behind is more than a motto; it’s a statement of what good representation, and by extension, good government can and should be. But for too long, from the Highlands down through the Valley, folks in the 6th district have been left behind.
I’m running for Congress because the 6th district needs new leadership; someone who will put hardworking individuals and families first by fighting for access to healthcare, working to drive down the cost of food, electricity, and housing, and making sure that school districts have the resources and funding they need for our students to succeed.
Now I’m asking for your help so we can make that vision a reality; will you support my campaign?
MEET KEN MITCHELL
Born and raised in Appalachia, Ken Mitchell hails from a multi-generational military family. The son of a working-class father and a first-generation immigrant mother, he has experienced first-hand many of the challenges familiar to families in the Shenandoah Valley. A proud “Girl Dad” and grandfather, Ken is running for Congress because he knows that too many Americans, including his children and grandchildren, won’t be given the same opportunities that he’s had.
Ken enlisted in the U.S. Army at 18 years old and served with honor for 24 years, including six years at the White House under both Democratic and Republican Presidents. His service to his country instilled in him the importance of leadership, collaboration, country over party, and leaving no one behind.
After his Army service, Ken worked for various companies in the infrastructure and technology sectors in central Virginia, gaining valuable insight into contracting, environmental review processes, and the crucial need for infrastructure investments in rural areas.
KEN ON THE ISSUES
-
Ken recognizes that the American Dream is now out of reach. As a Congressman, he will work hard towards:
Supporting Main Street over Wall Street
Ensuring that all Americans have access to a livable wage
Reducing the burdensome costs of childcare for families
Closing the gender gap in income
Addressing the wealth gap to build back a more robust middle class
Increasing affordable housing
Removing the tariffs which have accelerated our affordability crisis
Eliminating barriers to home ownership, as the average age of the first-time home buyer is now over 50 years old
Reducing health care costs and addressing the crisis of medical debt
-
As someone passionate about farming, Ken understands the importance of agriculture to the 6th district’s economy. Ken will work towards:
Securing funding for 6th district farmers in the Farm Bill
Supporting agriculture education programs in the Allegheny Highlands and across the Shenandoah Valley
Promoting agricultural careers for high school and college students across the Commonwealth
Funding grant programs that support agricultural research in the 6th district
Defending American farmers against low quality foreign produce and meat imports
-
As a father, grandfather, and veteran, Ken knows how essential affordable and accessible healthcare is in order to build a system that benefits every American. Ken plans to fight for:
The ability of all Americans to receive access to healthcare, addressing the healthcare crisis head on
Codifying Roe vs. Wade via the Women’s Health Protection Act
Improving access to mental healthcare so all can receive services, no matter their income or zip code
Stopping and reversing the cuts to Medicare that have already resulted in three clinic closures in the district
Increasing funding for our rural healthcare infrastructure
-
As a Veteran of the Army and Air Force, Ken is rooted in his desire to create positive change at home and abroad. Ken is deeply committed to:
Fully funding the VA, ensuring that our Veterans are provided with the world-class medical care they deserve
Streamlining the process to train and hire Veterans
Implementing housing reform, so we can reduce financial burdens on Veteran renters and home-buyers
Standing up for Ukraine in its defense against Russian imperialism
Respecting international bodies, such as the ICC, NATO, and the UN
Advocating for a humanitarian-focused approach to the conflict in Israel/Palestine
Restoring federal agencies like USAID, returning federal employees to the workplace, and recommitting our support for partners abroad
Utilizing our National Guard for genuine national security concerns, not political games
Respecting the sovereignty of foreign nations and upholding international law– on land, in the air, and on the seas
-
Ken has worried about the future for his children and grandchildren and what dangers they will face without addressing the climate change crisis more aggressively. In Congress, he will diligently work towards improving what future generations will inherit by:
Securing clean energy investment in the district
Supporting our farmers as they navigate changing weather patterns
Ensuring that our estuaries, streams, and waterways are healthy for ecosystems, farming, and tourism
Protecting our national parks and ensuring their funding
Restoring America’s status as a global leader in addressing climate change and environmental crises
